Duenna grabs her 2nd win!

Duenna, the beautifully bred daughter of up and coming sire, Fire Away, clinched her second victory in nine starts. Despite carrying a hefty top weight of 60.5kg, she secured an advantageous pole position draw which can always play a big role over the course and distance.

From this draw, jockey Calvin Habib was able to place the filly perfectly along the fence, sitting mid field. The pace was an awkward one when front-runner attempted to maintain a ridiculous pace and steal enough of a lead in the long Vaal straight. Fortunately Calvin executed a perfectly timed move and always looked like they would close in on the leader. With around 50 metres to go, Duenna hit the front and started stretching away just as the finish line loomed.

She is a relatively lightly raced filly, she has been consistent in her runs, earning a stake in every race bar one. This is a filly that is going to continue to strengthen with age and improve with experience. Hopefully a filly with a few wins to show off.
