Pettigrew Stable retains the Grade 3 Yellowwood Handicap!

One of the stable’s favourites, GILDED BUTTERFLY maintained her impeccable record when flying home to win the Grade 3, Yellowwood Handicap over 1800m on a great day’s racing. It was a combination of the Pettigrew stable, Ackerman silks and a Flower Alley filly that created a replicate of last year’s winning filly, Bold Fortune.

The Flower Alley filly has been so consistent since her first day at the races. To date, the filly has been fortunate enough to earn a stake cheque in all 11 career starts. She is a relatively lightly raced 4-year-old and seems to be improving with age and experience each time she steps out onto the track. The step up in distance over the 1800m has come to light in her last two runs, both wins being impressive and exciting to see that she covers the distance well and may even step up to a bit further as she continues to mature.

Kabelo Matsunyane has partnered the filly for majority of her runs and rode a confident ride from a good draw which always helps. She was able to settle well around mid-field, with a good pace and was allowed to stride along freely. When coming into the straight, Kabelo found himself moving up full of running towards the inside of the field. When the question was asked, a brilliant turn of foot saw her draw clear and was evident that she was not going to be caught. She ran on strongly all the way to the line, winning by a 1,75 length margin.

The filly will be sure to climb in the ratings after this win and races will in turn become a lot more competitive, but the filly is very gutsy though and full of heart. It will exciting to see how her career progresses.

The Ackerman family were at the course to shout their filly home and lead her into the winner’s enclosure. A very big congratulations to them, especially being the second year in a row the Ackerman silks have won the race.
