Gilded butterfly quickly out the maidens!

GILDED BUTTERFLY won her maiden at just the second time of asking and it was a win full of merit.

The 3-year-old filly was only stepping out onto the track for the second time after a very promising debut performance. Her first run saw her being naturally very green in the running and was over the 1160m sprint distance. She only got into stride at the finish and ran a credible 3rd, only beaten 0.70 lengths.

With that run under her belt she came into this race as a deserved favourite. There were some slight concerns though, one being that she had to overcome draw 10 of 10 which is very difficult over the 1450m trip. The other being that the form lines had not really been franked yet from the maiden performance. Fortunately this did not stop the Flower Ally filly from showing she has some potential and scope. She found herself well positioned by jockey Kabelo Matsunyane, which was a combination of skill and luck from the horrid draw. The aim and goal was to be running on down the outside, which is exactly what she did and with the step up in trip she was able to get into stride and kick at the right time, Kabelo with his hands down at the finish and won by 1,20 lengths.

With the filly's natural progression, it will be interesting to see how see fairs in her career to follow. The experience and possible step up in trip again, could she her be competitive in races to come and give owner, Mr Willem Ackerman further enjoyment. Congratulations to the Ackerman family on another winner.
