Castletown – still on the up!

Castletown proved that he is definitely above average and his natural progression with age and experience should see his 4-year-old career continue to flourish!

The Hollywoodbets Durban July day is just around the corner and will be highlighting multiple horses that Castletown has run with in his previous races, so the form have always been there. This race was only a rated 96 Handicap, but the manner in which the Silvano gelding was his race was very promising.

He was a comfortable runaway winner with a margin of 3,25 lengths. This latest trip to the winner’s box now makes him a 4 time winner from his 11 starts. Young Kabelo Matsunyane has partnered Castletown on a number of occasions and has become accustomed to the gelding’s style of running. This highlights the fact that Castletown does seem to hit a sort of “flat” spot when initially asked the question, but as soon as the penny drops, he has a great turn of foot and puts it together when it counts most. Kabelo understands his running style and did a great job of staying patient and asking him at the right time. When the gears changed, it was race over.

With the experience of every run, the beautifully bred Mauritzfontein youngster should continue to improve and his current style of running is just due to his immaturity at this stage. His most suited distance probably has not been established yet, he is loving the 1400m-1600m distances at the moment but with him maturing, he may enjoy the step up in trip.

The new season will be an exciting one for all the owners involved, a big congratulations to them, Messers M J Campbell, W D Jackson, T Kung, R H Mordt and C C Valjalo. A group of owners who are always supportive, very patient and love their racing.

Thanks to the sponsor Hollywoodbets – A big day ahead for them this weekend with the Hollywoodbets Durban July and all the best!
