An overdue win for Defender Of Rights!

DEFENDER OF RIGHTS found herself well in control to win her maiden on Sunday. Rain delays had put a damper on things but fortunately it was all worth the wait. The beautiful looking Flower Alley filly had been a bridesmaid in all three of her first outings at the course, and even though they were good runs, the stable were slightly disappointed as the hopes would be that she would have won her first race sooner. Never the less, a very welcomed win.

It was a patient and well timed ride by top Cape jockey, Richard Fourie. He placed the filly at the back of the field but it was an honest pace and he just needed to wait for the right time in the straight to make his move. Within a matter of strides the filly was right in the mix and when she came along side the market contender in the race, she gave another kick and drew clear to win very comfortably by 3,00 lengths.

It looks like it was a combination of the step up in trip, taking the bend for the first time and the overall experience that contributed to the win. She is sure to progress with more experience and a classic trip. Hopefully she can be another exiting prospect for long time patron, Mr Terry Kung. Her post maiden run will help judge her path for the future, but the hopes are that she will go on and this will not be the last we see of her in the winners box.

The stable very happy with the stats to date. Now with 21 wins for the season so far and an exceptional win/place percentage of 64%, all from just 137 runners. With a younger string that is starting to come along, the stable hopes to try maintain the high strike rate and increase the winning tally and stakes.
