Alula's Star sprints for Gold!

The Gold Rush sprint belongs to ALULA'S STAR. The race is designed for 3-year-olds, and had quite a few up and coming sprinters, majority of them being colts and geldings. This was definitely the filly's toughest task yet and she came away with the flying colours!

The Red Ray filly has been nothing but consistent since her first run back in August last year. She has only had 9 runs for 4 wins, 3 seconds, and two other minor placings, therefore earning a stake each time she has gone to the track.

Young apprentice Philasande Mxoli has partnered the filly since day one and they get along exceptionally. Mxoli has learnt the filly's versatility in her races. She has always had very good natural speed and is happy to lead the way, but she is able to sit just off the pace and switch on at the right time with an excellent turn of foot. The latter is how this latest win of hers panned out. She found herself just off the pace, Mxoli then pulled her out the pack and towards the outside rails where the better ground was on the day. Within a matter of strides, she found herself in front and kicked on to hold off a fast finishing unbeaten gelding. Definitely a race full of merit.

As her career progresses it will be interesting to see how she will continue to improve and only time will tell whether she is capable of some black type victory.

The Winterbach stud filly was an inexpensive purchase for long time patron Mr Ian van Schalkwyk, who is sure to add Alula's Star to a long list of good horses that he has owned throughout the years. A big congratulations and the stable is always appreciative of the support.
