A welcoming surprise from the newcomer!

CAPTAIN PEG surprised the stable ever so slightly by winning on debut, a very nice and eye-catching run from the 2-year-old Jay Peg filly!

The stable were confident of a nice run, hoping the filly would come off the pace from a wide draw and run on nicely. The filly had other ideas though. Along with the help of jock, Diego De Gouveia, she found herself positioned nicely along the fence. When turning into the straight she began creeping closer and closer to the leaders, and with about 100m to go, she got her mind fully on the job, hit the front and won by just under a length.

It was a win full of merit over a distance too short and the lack of experience. The filly will certainly come on from the run and will be looking for further. She may be a nice progressive sort given the patience to mature and step up in trip. Her next run will help show all connections what she may have to offer.

For now she offered a lot of excitement for all the owners and was fantastic to see majority of them enjoying the victory at the course. Well done to all involved - Messrs J T Mushwana, V Naidoo, W H Yip, Craig Chetty, Paul Marks & R Pettigrew. Partnerships where multiple owners can own a horse and get to enjoy their racing is important to the industry and always appreciated by the stable. A special mention to Mr Chetty for getting the group together and allowing the stable to pick them the filly. May the partnership continue to enjoy their racing.
