A double for the stable!

There were two stable fancies for the day that both managed to get themselves into the winners box and contributed to a nice start for the new season. These wins now make a total of 4 wins for the month of August, a start to the season that the stable is happy to embrace!

ALULA'S STAR was the first of the winners. She started as a deserved favourite after her very smart first start, where she ran 2nd and beaten just under half a length. She is a temperamental filly and not the easiest to train, so with some experience under her belt, she was certainly going to be lengths better than her first run. It was a very patient and well balanced ride by the young Philandise Mxoli. The Red Ray filly had plenty of speed from the gates and she kept on going well all the way to the line and ended up a comfortable winner by 1,25 lengths.

With further experience, the 3-year-old should continue to improve. Her post maiden run will tell a lot about the future she may have, but with her natural speed, the stable hope that she may end up in the winners box soon again. Congratulations to the owner, Mr Ian van Schalkwyk on yet another winner in those very well known colours.

In the same race was a first timer names Miss United States who ran a nice race, only beaten 5,50 lengths into 4th. She will come on a lot from the run and might be one to look out for in her next race.

It was then just two races later where another favourite, RAPID CHARGE, timed her race perfectly to get up on the line and win her maiden. The filly is close to the stable's heart by being the full sister to Surcharge (Yulong Prince). She has unfortunately being slightly disappointing to date, as her work at home has always been far better than what she brings to the track. The drop in distance and blinkers worked out perfect for the well bred filly. It was great to see her notch up her maiden win. She will unfortunately not be following in her brother's footsteps and her future is questionable but VARSFONTEIN STUD, who owns and bred this lovely looking filly will take her next steps as it comes. A very big well done to the stud, and the stable is thankful for the opportunity to train a horse for the them.
