Classy win for Whafeef!

Despite the small field consisting of only five runners, it remained evident that each horse possessed class and had previously competed in multiple group races. The formidable competition did not deter Whafeef, as he consistently maintained a strong chance of emerging victorious in the race.

Due to the high quality of the field, the ultra consistent 4-year-old came into the race with a low galloping weight of just 52 and along with the pole position draw, he was a lot of punters first choice.

Apprentice jockey, Philasande Mxoli, skillfully guided the gelding from the moment the gates opened. Settling along the fence, they found a comfortable rhythm thanks to a favorable pace upfront. As the small field approached the home straight, Mxoli maintained a strategic position following the leading horses towards the middle-outside of the course. Gradually, they made their move, steadily advancing into contention and seizing the lead with approximately 200 meters remaining. It became evident that they would not be caught, as they surged ahead convincingly, crossing the finish line with a commanding margin of 2.00 lengths.

With his fifth victory under his belt, Whafeef has proven himself to be consistently formidable and above average. However, since being gelded in December, his performance has noticeably improved, particularly in his strong finishes. This progress suggests that he will continue to be a strong contender and advance further. Whafeef possesses the potential to achieve a graded stakes win, a remarkable feat that would bring joy to the Ackerman family, who have invested significant resources into the sport and the industry. Their deserving recognition is appreciated by the stable.
